Most Americans access care through a provider network, a set of doctors our insurance companies have contracted with to offer covered care. However, network data is notoriously unreliable and disjointed, complicating how members access low cost, high quality care. Health care organizations often find themselves spinning their wheels trying to figure out which providers even exist in a specific geography.

Our network analytics and purpose built software allow healthcare organizations to keep cost, quality & regulatory metrics at the forefront of their network design strategy. Expediting the basics, J2 Health allows health care organizations to focus on increasing access and delivering better products for their members.

J2 is looking for a full-time Head of Data to lead our growing team of Data Scientists and solve healthcare problems at the frontier of the industry. This role will manage a fast growing team and data stack – Python, Bigquery, and Postgresql – and set the foundation for how J2 solves data science problems. This is a great opportunity for an experienced startup Data Science manager ready to jump into a new challenge. This role reports directly to the CEO.

Main Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Roadmap. Own the scoping & delivery of the data science roadmap, in partnership with product and key business stakeholders, including the CEO
  • Architecture. Collaborate with engineering leadership to establish a technical vision and take on the responsibility of designing and organizing J2’s data science stack
  • Team Development. Manage and grow our data science team through hands-on coaching and career development, fostering an environment that enables people to operate at their best
  • Problem Solving. Support data science team members and collaborate with key internal business stakeholders to solve J2 data problems in rigorous and practical ways
  • Technical Skills. Ability to go hands-on to solve business problems algorithmically with alternative data, entity resolution, and geospatial data. Familiarity with Python and SQL required. Exposure to Bigquery and Postgresql is not required but a plus.

All Candidates must have: 

  • 10+ years of relevant experience with at least 2 years in a startup environment 
    • Healthcare experience not required but a plus
    • Minimum of 4 years experience managing a team
  • Demonstrated success in data science and people management
  • Great devops practices, experience building scalable and orchestrated data pipelines
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving and communication skills 
  • Ability to independently own the vision for the data science team and manage cross-functional execution
  • Excitement to dive into world of healthcare and provider networks
  • Ability and willingness to work in office 3 days a week

Compensation: $220,000-$260,000 plus equity commensurate with experience.
